"Here's a delightful book — a crime novel in the style of Elmore Leonard or Quentin Tarantino, with plenty of humor balanced by real introspective characterization. Our protagonist is a dishwasher promoted to enforcer (aka hitman) at the mid-level of a larger organized crime structure. He does a lot of killing and disposing of bodies, but he remains a sympathetic character throughout thanks to the humor of his narration, the tragedy of his backstory (which we get little by little), and his own likable disposition." —Joe Squance

"I've laughed, I've winced, and it's even had me in actual tears! Never thought I'd sympathize with a baddie, but this story cracks it!" —Michelle Jordan-Smith

"I've really gotten attached to these characters. The writing is top-notch, up there with Robert B. Parker" —Kristie Ponce

Heavy-hitting action, hard-boiled 1960s pulp-fiction sensibility, and dazzling prose... The Art of Disposal is the most original crime novel in years; a perfect blend of action, introspection, and dark humor; a literary mafia thriller; a meditation on the nature of life and death. Don't miss it!

The Art of Disposal edition by John Prindle Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

A police detective once told me that most of the criminals he had helped to imprison were not bad people; they were actually good people who had done bad things. John Prindle does an excellent job of illustrating that concept. The character development is masterful, with compassion, wisdom, morality, and loyalty appearing in unexpected places. There is a generous sprinkling of humor, as well. This is a novel that bears rereading and begs a sequel!

The Art of Disposal edition by John Prindle Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

I read a lot of crime stuff and most is poorly conceived and written. Not this. It sparkles and moves along smartly. Highly recommended.
I could not put this book down. The style of writing, the great metaphors, and descriptions kept me reading until the end. I will look for future books by this author.
The author created characters and a story that drew my interest until the end.
one of the three great debut novels I've read this year. All of them played a movie in your mindseye with a plus of getting to know the characters in a way that only a good book will. Graphic violence and realistic language may require an R rating but this is part of the book's charm.
I was hooked on this story. Could not get enough. I rather enjoyed the author's take on the criminal point of view on things. I don't read a lot of noire but I rather enjoyed this book. The story itself was a slow progression and illustrated particular trials that the main character underwent that left you with the impression that he was basically a good guy placed in such a position that required him to do some fairly unsavory things. Overall a fine read.
I don't read many crime thrillers, but IMHO this one was fantastic. The narrator is relatable, thoughtful, and even profound while being a stone-cold killer. I'm probably not the book's target audience (I'm a pacifist for one thing), but I found myself engrossed and rooting for the bad guys!

In between the violence, the bits of reflection on relationships and humanity really grounded the book too. The thoughtful parts helped pace things without ever getting too plodding. It's 400+ pages but kept moving at a rapid clip, and as a fellow writer, I know how hard that is. Ready for the next installment in the trilogy!
One of the best books I've read in months. The proof of that is the fact I'm re-reading it to catch every detail.
As an avid reader, I'm conditioned to be disappointed in the churn of predictable, bad editing, unpolished stories that clutter my kindle. Then I come across an author who has so many unique lines, who made me care about a stone cold killer, and I'm so glad I ignored the cover that doesn't do this story justice and got hooked by the thought and wit that went into every line of The Art of Disposal. I love the flawed and realistic characters shown through Ronnie's eyes, whose internal thought process is fascinating. The author does a wonderful balance of action, dialogue and introspection. I'll be reading every thing John Prindle puts out there.
I almost never write reviews, 1. because I read so many books that it would take too long to review them all and 2. since I like to read self published books by writers that I'm not familiar with and since I'm frequently let down by either the story, the characters, the poor self editing, or the total lack of it, I tend to follow the Thumperian Principle. I'm making an exception in this case.
I didn't expect much when I got this book, I mainly got it because it sounded like it might be interesting, but wasn't sure I would be able to like, or care about the characters. The author has created and developed characters that are psychopaths and sociopaths who have few to no morals and would disgust and frighten me if I knew they were in the same zip code as me (think your average Fortune 500 CEO) and has manged to make me like and care about many of them. Especially the somewhat conflicted main character who likes his fish better than most humans and his mentor and best friend who won't kill women or children.
As I already mentioned, I didn't expect much when I got this book, but it has turned out to be one of my favorite books so far this year. One of those books that the closer I got to the end, the more I kept hoping that more pages would magically appear and it wouldn't actually end for another week or so. You know, one of those books that leaves you a little empty inside at the end because you're sure that you don't have any books in your library that are going to be as good. It's one of those books that made me instantly go to the Author's page to see if he had written any more books with these characters.
While there, I was excited to find that he is writing a prequel to this book and I'm hoping a sequel will be along sometime in the future. I was also surprised to find that John had edited the entire book himself which I found amazing since I didn't find any obvious mistakes or misspellings and I'm sure it must have taken a tremendous amount of time. I'm not a grammar expert by any means, but there was nothing obvious to me.
Not everyone enjoys the same things in a book and just because I thought it was exceptionally well written doesn't mean anyone else will, but this one checked all of my boxes.
Thanks John
